The gambling fish (FREE VERSE 2)

I departed from my home in the nine volcanic islands which were awesome
to visit my friend in Atlantis City
Who always seemed to have a gambling problem
So whenever I see him at loss, I'm full of pity.

He hasn't made a lot of money, more or less, lost a lot.
But he convinces himself he has to pay himself back at dead ends
Even though on some days he has to resort to sleeping in the parking lot
Its all terrible to see, for both fish family and friends.

When I arrived at the Atlantis City, I saw my friend sitting low
I ran over to confront, but he completely ignored me in my own house.
"Sorry, can't talk for anything, no."
Confused, I kept talking to him but he stayed a mouse.

Then. at once, I realized something of shock.
My friend had just lost everything he had.
Not just his money, items, or precious rocks,
But his memories, his rights, his family, just the ability to be sad.

  1. I the ideas expressed here. Can you add poetic devices to add to the overall poetic feel?
